The $200 million Hinarr Hu Moulik Apartments project is the largest student housing development in Humboldt history, and the first newfacility since its polytechnic designation. Here, two buildings house up to 964 students on the site of a former shopping mall less than a milefrom campus. A third structure houses a cafe and market. The development emphasizes community and sustainability with shared common areas, green spaces, parking with EV charging stations, and on-site solar energy production.

Scope & Technical Execution

Coalition provided procurement, fabrication, assembly and installation services for three wall types totaling 15,655 square feet of facade. Apartment ground floors feature storefront systems clad with insulated glass units (IGUs) incorporating heat-strengthened glass, low-e coatings, ceramic frits, and integrated doors.

Above, the 7 and 6-story buildings are wrapped with nearly 10,000 square feet of unitized window wall with insulated metal panels, IGUs with integrated fins, operable windows, and louvers. The rhythm of each elevation is accentuated by a highly glazed stick-built curtainwall system featuring argon gas filled insulated glass units (IGUs) to reduce heat transfer and metal fins to manage glare. Here, typical units span 4’ 2” wide by 20’ tall. The cafe and market lobby utilizes an equivalent stick-built system to bring natural light deep into the space. Prior to construction, Coalition lead water infiltration mockups confirming the performance of each wall system.

To meet the project’s aggressive delivery schedule, Coalition procured embeds on an accelerated timeline and worked with vendor partners to assemble units on double shifts to reduce lead times.

The complex is targeting LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
